Wheels down, and the river turns gold

Warm air hits you the second the aircraft door opens — thick, sweet, faintly of jasmine and rain. Your name is on a card at arrivals, your bags go into the van, and forty minutes later you are checking into a hotel a short walk from the river. There is nothing on the schedule tonight except one thing: be on the water by six. As the long-tail boats thin out, Wat Arun lights up across the Chao Phraya and the whole river runs copper. Dinner is on deck, with the city sliding past.

Gold, mirrors, and the Emerald Buddha

You go early, before the heat and the crowds. Nothing quite prepares you for the Grand Palace — acres of gilded spires, mirrored glass, and demon guardians the height of a house, all of it glittering hard enough to make you squint. Inside Wat Phra Kaew sits the Emerald Buddha, smaller than you imagined and somehow heavier for it. Then a short walk to Wat Pho, where the Reclining Buddha stretches forty-six metres end to end, and you drop coins into 108 bronze bowls for luck.

Day 03

03Wat Benchamabophit · Loha Prasat

Marble, in the first light of morning

Morning belongs to the Marble Temple. You arrive at seven, when Carrara marble is still cool underfoot and saffron-robed monks line up in the forecourt to receive alms. It is quiet in a way Bangkok rarely is. Afterwards, the Loha Prasat — the Metal Castle — with its thirty-seven black iron spires, and a slow climb up its spiral core for a view over rooftops and canals. The afternoon is yours: a canal boat, a tailor, a nap. Nobody will hurry you.

Day 04

04Royal Plaza · Damnoen Saduak

Royal barges and a floating market

An early start again, because the floating market is best before nine — boats stacked with mangosteen, pomelo and coconut ice cream, paddled elbow-to-elbow through narrow khlongs while somebody grills prawns off the stern. Back in the city, the Royal Plaza opens up: the domed Throne Hall at one end, a gilded royal barge marooned in a sea of marigolds, and enough space to finally breathe. Evening: Asiatique by the river, or an early night. Your call.

Day 05

05Chinatown · Talat Noi

Yaowarat, after dark

This is the night people come back talking about. Bangkok changes clothes at dusk, and Yaowarat — Chinatown — turns into a corridor of red neon, frying woks and blue tuk-tuks parked three deep in the rain. You eat standing up: crab omelette, satay off the coals, mango sticky rice from a plastic stool. Then a walk through Talat Noi, where old machine shops open onto shrines, and cats sleep on scooters. Nobody rushes. The street cools, the signs blaze, the city hums.

Day 06

06Chiang Mai · Wiang Kum Kam

North, where the air goes cool

A short morning flight and the country changes under you — flat delta gives way to green hills, and the air in Chiang Mai is ten degrees kinder. You spend the day among Lanna temples: red-lacquered gables, teak carving, and the leaning brick chedi of Wiang Kum Kam, the buried city the river swallowed eight centuries ago. As the sun drops you climb to Doi Suthep, ring the bells along the terrace, and watch the whole valley switch its lights on below.

Day 07

07Chiang Mai → Home

One last blue sky

Coffee somewhere with a courtyard. A last hour at the market for a bag of dried mango and a bracelet you will still be wearing in June. Then the transfer to the airport, boarding passes already sorted, and the slow realisation somewhere over the Bay of Bengal that you have already started planning the next one. We will be at the other end of the phone when you do.

Indian passport holders need a visa for Thailand. We file it for you — you hand over your passport, photographs and bank statement, and we do the rest, including the VFS appointment. Processing usually takes 5–7 working days, so give us three weeks before departure to be safe.

That is what we do best. Thailand requires at least six months of validity from your date of entry. If your passport is short on validity, damaged, or you need a fresh one, Cocplacement handles the new passport, renewal or correction alongside the booking — one team, one phone number.

November to February is the sweet spot — dry, clear and comfortably warm, with Chiang Mai cool in the evenings. March to May is hot; June to October brings short, heavy afternoon rain and the best hotel rates. We are happy to plan for any of them, and we will tell you honestly what to expect.

Yes. We flag your requirement to every hotel and restaurant in advance, and our guides know which stalls and kitchens can be trusted. On request we build in Indian meals in both Bangkok and Chiang Mai at no extra cost.
